- Homer and Bart are watching a "very late" episode of The Three Stooges on TV, more specifically the fictional episode "Brittle Boneheads" directed by Jules White III, supposed grandson of Jules White.
- Homer eats an ad of Joe Millionaire, an American reality television show that was broadcast in 2003.
- One of Maggie's toys is Po from the British children's TV series Teletubbies.
- Professor Frink says his own flying machine beats U. S. Air, a former major American airline.
- Louie, Johnny Tightlips and Fat Tony are watching the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood on the mafia jet.
- Lisa yells at the planes saying that her house is not a Delta Air Lines hub.

- When Marge asks for someone to perform CPR on Horace Wilcox, Homer starts singing "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, the American band which is often referred to as CCR.
- According to Channel 6 News, Horace Wilcox was a Titanic survivor.
- When the kids want Krusty to become a Congressman, Lisa says entertainers are always winning elections, and cites:
- Jesse "The Body" Ventura who, after achieving fame in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), served as the 38th governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003.
- Sonny Bono, famous for making duo with Cher in Sonny & Cher, and later becoming Republican Congressman for California's 44th district.
- Gopher from Love Boat. This is a reference to American actor Fred Grandy who played Burl "Gopher" Smith on the sitcom The Love Boat and later became a member of the United States House of Representatives from the state of Iowa.
- Mary Bono, who was married to Sonny Bono and was elected to Congress in the state of California.
- Krusty refers to the song "You Can Leave Your Hat On" by Joe Cocker, which is often associated with the striptease dance, when he tells Bart to remember his mother to return the "Krusty's The Kure" hat after.
- Krusty hates the government as he is being chased by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), ATF and Inmigration. He also mentions the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) when he shows Bart a list of the things he is not allowed to say on air.
- Mr. Burns mentions that the Springfield Republican Party's mission is to name everything after president Ronald Reagan. The places that are due to be renamed included the Millard Fillmore schools and the Mississippi River. Dracula also renames Frankenstein to "Frankenreagan", this is probably a reference to Jill Stein, who campaigned for President of the US and was linked to the Democratic Party.
- Bob Dole thinks himself should run for Congressman. Dole was the Republican presidential nominee in the 1996 election, losing to Bill Clinton and Al Gore, and the vice-presidential nominee in the 1976 election, losing to Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale.
- Dr. Hibbert says, "If Eddie Murphy can go on to do Dr. Dolittle, I suppose we can make this work". A reference to the 1998 film Dr. Dolittle in which Eddie Murphy starred.
- The Simpsons are watching Fox News on TV. On the program, John Armstrong, Krusty's competitor, is portrayed in front of a communist red flag with the Hammer and sickle. Other news read on the screen include Republican-oriented titles:
