- The name of the episode is a reference to the TV series Stranger Things.
- A cover of the orchestral piece Boléro by Pink Martini can be heard during the episode's couch gag, which was animated and directed by Bill Plympton.

Continuity[edit]
- Previous flashback Todd could walk and talk as well the same size as 2-year-old Bart when Lisa was born. ("Lisa's First Word")
- Previously Homer had never been to the Flanders house in the eight years they have been neighbors. ("Dead Putting Society")
- Smitty has yellow skin rather than black skin.
- Sideshow Mel is shown as Krusty's sidekick. This is an continuity error; Sideshow Bob is shown to be Krusty's sidekick is past scenes in various episodes, including "Lisa's First Word" and "The Telltale Head", along with the fact that he was replaced by Mel after framing Krusty for armed robbery in the present day events of the show (season 1's "Krusty Gets Busted"). Mel becomes Krusty's newest sideshow in between "Krusty Gets Busted" and season 3's "Black Widower", while the main events of this episode are six years into the past.
