- The Itchy & Scratchy Show episode "The Great Brawl of China" is a reference to the Great Wall of China.
- Herman Millwood is a reference to the company Herman Miller and the Aerochair is a parody of the Aeron chair, a chair made by Herman Miller.
- The song "Bye Bye Bye" by 'N Sync plays in the flashback to 1999.
- An arcade machine of the game Ms. Pac-Man is hit by a fire extinguisher during the chaos at BetterThanTV.com.
- The BetterThanTV.com cartoons are:
- Homer refers to Bart as film director Roman Polanski. When Marge tells Homer what Roman Polanski had done, Homer strangles Bart. This is a reference to the Roman Polanski sexual abuse case.
- The movie posters on the walls of the animation studio are all parodies of real movies:
- Bart says: "I've always loved cartoons, going way back to the real early SpongeBobs", a reference to Nickelodeon animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.
- One of the animators for Angry Dad says that meeting Homer and Bart is like meeting Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney. Homer then imitates Mickey Mouse's voice.
- One of the actors at the table read for Angry Dad: The Movie is Steve Buscemi.
- The man in the audience for the test screening who yells to turn the movie off is a reference to George C. Scott.
- Lisa mentions the directors Wes Anderson, Frank Tashlin, Tim Burton, and Taylor Hackford as directors who started with short films.
- Angry Dad: The Movie got nominated for a Golden Globe award.
- Luigi tells Sir Anthony Hopkins that his pizza will be late.
- Lady Gaga and Elton John attend the Golden Globe awards ceremony.
- Mixar is a parody of Pixar.
- John Lasseter from Pixar is one of the people in Mixar.

Continuity[edit]
- The opening shot of the Simpson house shows both cars in the drive, despite the fact that the family except Bart were out in one of the cars.
- The song "Bye Bye Bye" was released in 2000, whilst in the episode, it's used in a 1999 flashback.
