Cultural references[edit]

The episode "Hoop Screams" is a parody of the film Hoop Dreams. Also, the mouse player #23 is a clear reference to Michael Jordan
  • During the episode "Hoop Screams" from the The Itchy & Scratchy Show:
    • The title is a parody of the 1994 basketball-related film Hoop Dreams.
    • The referee is a zebra, a reference to "zebra" being a common slang term for officials in many sports (due to their generally wearing black-and-white striped uniforms).
    • The mouse player #23 is a clear reference to Michael Jordan:
      • Jordan wore #23 for most of his playing career.
      • Jordan was renowned for his flying slam dunks, particularly for starting his leap for the hoop at the free throw line or beyond.
      • The mouse player makes the dunk with his tongue hanging out, another one of Jordan's mannerisms.
    • The mice players' pouring blood over their coach is a reference to the "Gatorade shower" custom of players pouring Gatorade or some other liquid over their coach to celebrate a win.
  • Krusty's sponsor is the Texxon family of gas stations. This is a parody of Texaco and the American natural resources company Exxon.
  • Homer mentions Alex Trebek.
  • When the Simpsons pass by Marge's old district, real-life stores such as 7-Eleven and McDonald's are seen.
A kite with a picture of the famous duo Sonny & Cher is among Marge's stuff

Trivia[edit]

  • This episode's title is similar to another Simpson episode, "Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife" from Season 17.
  • Homer tells Lisa that he ate a slice of wedding cake Marge was keeping in the freezer (Much to Marge's anger). There was also a slice of wedding cake in the freezer that Marge showed Homer in "Natural Born Kissers".
  • In Latin America, this episode was released as the ninth episode of the season for unknown reasons.
  • Gasoline is naturally transparent, while in this episode, it is green. However, it is possible that Texxon dyes its own gasoline.

Continuity[edit]

Goofs[edit]

  • Marge asks Nelson if he is the boy who beats up Bart in "Sleeping with the Enemy". In this episode, Marge tells Bart that she didn't think Nelson was the bullying type.
  • In Marge's old district, Bart says he'd never heard any of the stores that were on the streets, and they go past McDonald's (as if Bart never saw that). Bart saw McDonald's in "Double, Double, Boy in Trouble".
