- The title is a parody of the 1979 film The Great Santini.
- Lisa and Ewell Freestone mention the National Public Radio (NPR) at Freestone Family Peach Orchard.
- Marge prepares BLT sandwiches with peaches.
- Lisa thinks the neighbourhood she visits stated to look like Sesame Street. She also mentions Oscar the Grouch when a trash shakes.
Raymondo has a bust of Houdini. The musical automaton Ali Rudy Vallée shares his name with Rudy Vallée and sings "Three Little Fishies"
- The Great Raymondo has a bust of Houdini in his house.
- Raymondo says that Houdini handed down the Great Milk Can Escape illusion to him. The Milk Can Escape was one of Houdini's notable escape acts.
- The name of the musical automaton, Ali Rudy Vallée, is based on Rudy Vallée, an American singer, musician, actor, and radio host. The automaton resemblances the Mechanical Turk.
