- The title of the episode refers to the Saga, which is a prose story and history composed in Iceland, and a main element in this episode.
- The Eastern Europe tennis players on the Woman's Doubles Final have names similar to those of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Petra Kvitová.
- The Icelandic Museum of National History has the shape of the Perlan building, a landmark in Reykjavík.
- A statue of famous Icelandic artist Björk is seen inside the museum. She is wearing the iconic swan dress she used at the 73rd Academy Awards.

- The number plate of the Fjord Fjiesta that Homer, Moe, and Lenny rented in Iceland is RABF14, the production code for the episode.
- When Homer, Lenny, and Moe are studying Old Icelandic, one of the words they learn is "Forvitinn", meaning "nosy". Upon their arrival in the country, an Icelander described his fellow citizens as "very nosy".
- Carl's family tree says nothing about Carlotta Carlson. This may have been because his sister wasn't adopted by his adoptive family and he may have met her at a later period, when he had moved to the USA.
