Cultural references
- The title of the episode is a reference to John Steinbeck's final novel, published in 1961, The Winter of Our Discontent and websites' monetization of contents, mostly Youtube's.
- Season 25's episode "The Winter of His Content" also referenced the novel, and the title of the episode is a reference to that too.
- Anger Watkins talks about who is better, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan. It's a reference to the entr'acte between Kobe Bryant, Cara Delevigne and James Corden at the March 28, 2019 episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden.
- In his call to Watkins, Homer mentions John Stockton.
- Homer mentions Muhammad Ali, saying he never fought Cassius Clay. Ali's real name is Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr..
- Bart and Homer dances like the "Backpack Kid" did on Saturday Night Live, with a superimposed text saying "Don't sue us, Backpack Kid." too.
- Homer mentions the Denver Broncos.
- Warburton Parker shows Homer and Bart the Monkey Smells Finger and Falls Out of Tree video.
- In the H.O.L.E., Nelson finds old Goosebumps books:
- Hamster of Horror, a possible parody of Little Shop of Hamsters.
- The Hunted Toothbrush, a parody of Night of the Giant Everything.
- The Wolf who Cried 'Boy', a parody of The Girl Who Cried Monster, and the fable The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Continuity
- When Homer and Bart start singing "Monetize monetize", Homer sings "Monorail Monorail". ("Marge vs. the Monorail")
