Synopsis
- "When Ned suffers an accident at a play, he reveals that he and Edna are married. At the hospital, half the town intrudes on Ned's room, and Edna tells everyone to clear out. They soon realize that having an open marriage is tricky, and they have to deal with the ups and downs. Meanwhile, Edna pulls Rod and Todd out of Christian school and into Springfield Elementary.[1]"
Plot
Springfield Playhouse puts up a play of Jesus. Ned Flanders hopes to get the role of Jesus, but it goes to Homer instead. During the premiere, Ned gets a concussion when Jesus' cross falls on him. When Ned is being taken to the ambulance, Ned reveals that Edna is his wife.
Marge and Homer visit Ned and Edna at the hospital, and find out that they wanted to keep the marriage secret because everyone would have made a big deal about it, the hospital room is soon visited by the inhabitants of Springfield who congratulate the new couple, but Ned and Edna throw them all out, even Homer and Marge. Ned is at home with Edna, when Homer and Marge come to reveal that they will arrange a wedding party for their honor. Ned is skeptical, but Edna tells him that she would love to have one. Marge prepares the party, while Edna is on Rod and Todd's parents' meeting, because Ned is busy. When she visits the Onward Christian Schoolboys Academy, she thinks that the school is wrong for them, and sends them to Springfield Elementary School. When Ned finds out what Edna did, he is not happy, but accepts her decision, and has a nightmare about the kids education.
At the party, Ned discovers that his children have changed, and he doesn't like what Edna has done. Edna tries to calm Ned down, and tells him that his kids love her, Edna goes home with the kids while Ned sleeps over at the Simpsons. In the morning, Ned finds out that Marge and Homer do not agree on how their children should be raised. During a meeting, the Springfield Elementary School's students walk Ned up to the stage, and confesses his love to Edna, and Edna admits that she also made some bad decisions, and the two make up and kiss. Homer continues his role as Jesus by inaugurating a Sleazy Sam's Payday Loans store, where he is struck by lightning.
