- This episode's couch gag is a reference to Chia Pets, and there is actually a Homer Chia Pet and a Bart Chia Pet people can purchase in real life.
- According to Homer, he was at Moe's celebrating St. Patrick's Day. He mentions some Irish-related things like the Blarney Stone and the Angela's Ashes film.
- Homer compares Marge with comedian Steve Martin when Homer found out she was not mad at him for ruining dinner.
- Drunken Donuts is a parody of the popular donut chain Dunkin' Donuts.
