Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to The Smiths 1985 studio album of the same name.
- It may also be a reference to the 1998 book of the same name by Mikita Brottman.
- The episode is a parody of the TV series Succession.
- The Redfield family are parodies of characters from the show. Gus is a parody of Logan Roy, Colby is a parody of Connor Roy, Mav is a parody of Roman Roy, and Sheila is a parody of Siobhan "Shiv" Roy. Jessica is a parody of Gerri Kellman. Cousin Greg from Succession is also in the episode, played by Nicholas Braun, who played him in Succession.
- Dick Gregory, George Carlin, Albert Brooks and Richard Pryor were in the lineup at The Village Turtleneck.
- Krusty presents a Superman bowling ball, calling it the Super Bowl.
- Worth-A-Try Burger is a parody of Whataburger.
- The Krustyland characters are parodies of real people:
- Burger Reynolds is a parody of Burt Reynolds.
- Grilly Cheese King is a parody of Billie Jean King.
- Jack Pickleson is a parody of Jack Nicholson.
- Patty Meltin' John is a parody of Elton John.
- Homer says that he remembers when Patty Meltin' John sang at Princess Fries' funeral, a reference to Princess Diana's funeral.
- The Holland, Michigan Tulip Time Festival is a real-life festival.
- Me and the Space Clown is a parody of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Bart saying that they were showing the only copy not in a landfill is a reference to the E.T. video game, many copies of which were buried underground.
- It could also be connected to the 1988 movie Mac and Me, an E.T. ripoff of a similar naming scheme, which was funded by McDonald's and features prominent product placement for that restaurant chain.
- Krusty being declined more money for his act and deciding to open a Krusty Burger across the street, which leads to Gus and Abe to going out of business parallels how Ray Kroc of McDonald's responded to not being able to get the original "Big M" location by opening a franchise near it that forced the McDonald Brothers out of business.
- This is part of the plot of The Founder. Krusty's and Gus interaction at the Worth-A-Try Burger is similar to the one involving Ray Kroc and "Mac" McDonald
- Abe crosses the pool to reunite with Gus and Gus setting aside people to reach him in the same Jenny does it to reunite with Forrest Gump at the National Mall after his Vietnam's speech.
- Gus sings "Shameless Ostentation", a parody of "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
- He mentions being richer than Bill Gates since his separation in it.
- Gus sees Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson in space.
- Mav Redfield's island music festival is a reference to the Fyre Festival. Mav says that Kenny Chesney died at the festival.
- Sheila and Lisa watch a movie at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
- Sheila says the movie was made by Chloé Zhao.
- Angela Merkel, Kevin O'Leary (who Jessica refers to as the bald, creepy Shark Tank guy), and Charli D'Amelio attend the meeting.
- Charli D'Amelio dances to "Watch Me While I Work" by Photronique.
- Augustus tells Sheila that Megan Ellison is now his daughter.
Continuity
- Sideshow Bob writes "Die Kirk Die" on Kirk Van Houten's chest. ("Cape Feare")
- One of the booths at Krusty Fest is "Congressman Krusty". ("Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington")
- The Khlav Kalash Vendor appears. ("The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson")
