Cultural references[edit]

• The episode's title is a reference to Make Room for Daddy, the original name of The Danny Thomas Show, a sitcom that ran from 1953 to 1957.
• While sleeping at work, Homer is listening to a radio talking about things from 1939, mentioning the then-current president Franklin D. Roosevelt and Benny Goodman's version of "Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)". Homer mentions he has to stop Adolf Hitler.
• To bring Homer back to the present, Lenny changes the radio to KBBL and the famous 1982 song "The Safety Dance" by new wave band Men Without Hats is heard. When the song finishes, Bill and Marty refer to the band as the "Men Without Jobs", a reference to "The Safety Dance" being their only real successful US single.
• Bill thinks that people at P. J. O'Harrigan's behave in a way that makes Animal House, the 1978 comedy film about a trouble-making fraternity, look like Terms of Endearment, a 1983 family tragicomedy film.
• At the bar, Homer won a prize called "Sir Drinks-A-Lot", a pun on rapper Sir Mix-a-Lot.
• Homer is excited to think they were going to see Marmaduke, the dog from the comic of the same name.

Trivia[edit]

• A deleted scene had Marge listening in on a conversation between Helen Lovejoy and Luann Van Houten instead of Moe and Lenny. The gossip was also different, while the conversation between Moe and Lenny was about Groundskeeper Willie, Helen and Luann's conversation was about Marge and Jacques.
• This is second time Bart has a blue jacket. The first time was in "Itchy & Scratchy Land".

Goofs[edit]

• At one frame in the kitchen when Homer is holding Maggie, the walls and hinges of the kitchen are colored pink instead of light purple.
