Cultural references[edit]
- The title is a reference to Lord of the Dance.
- The sign seen at the Try-N-Save, "Catch Back-to-Schooliosis!", is a play on the medical condition scoliosis.
- Krusty's Speak and Say says the word Yiddish word "shiksa", which is mostly used in the North American Jewish culture to refer to a person who is not Jewish.
- Homer usually buys the real-word magazine Success.
- Alex tells Lisa not to be a "Phoebe", a character from Friends played by Lisa Kudrow. Later, Alex asks Sherri and Terri which one of them is the evil twin, since Phoebe had an evil twin in Friends.
- Alex wears the fictional perfume "Pretension" by Calvin Klein, a parody of Calvin Klein's "Obsession".
- A tanker at the grease recycling plant is labeled "Acne Grease Co.", a reference to the Acme Corporation from Looney Tunes. Acne Grease and Shovel also references the company.
- The music heard in the background when the girls are at Dingo Junction is "Positive Vibrations" by Mark Hailey & Ray Flowers.
- Lisa mentions The McLaughlin Group at the store.
- Lisa's new look is that of Olivia Newton-John's character Sandy Olsson in Grease.

- FOX aired this episode earlier than the rest of the season to promote the debut of That '70s Show. Thus, it aired before the official season premiere.
- This episode is the second time Nelson talks about his obsession with huckleberries, the first being "This Little Wiggy".

- When Marge is dancing, her eyes are briefly so low down that they cover almost the entirety of her nose.
- When Alex is complaining to Lisa about the students' childishness, Sherri and Terri are bright yellow instead of pale yellow.
