The Nigerian scam was apparently invented in Springfield. Moe is seen writing one of these emails and pretending to be from the city of Lagos, Nigeria.[1]

Mr. Monroe moved to Nigeria when he was two.[2]

In Nigeria, pushing your palm outward with your fingers spread is considered a vulgar gesture.[3]
