Synopsis[edit]

Sixty years in the future, Lisa recounts the story of how Homer was scapegoated for a power outage that plunged Springfield into darkness days before Thanksgiving. When nobody believes Homer's innocent, Homer has to convince his family of the truth before taking down the real culprit, Mr. Burns.

Plot[edit]

Sixty years in the future, the Simpson family sits down for the first Thanksgiving meal since Homer passed away. Before the meal starts, the family lights their remembrance candles. Lisa then explains that the people of Springfield light the candles in remembrance of the great blackout that almost destroyed the town. She then tells the story.

One night, Marge wakes Homer up to tell him that there's a big storm coming to Springfield and asks him if he's installed the storm windows yet, like he promised to do. Marge quickly finds out that Homer hasn't and Homer promises to do so after work. Homer then puts on a Hawaiian shirt because it's Hawaiian day at the Power Plant and he has been elected King Kamehameh. At the power plant, everyone celebrates Hawaiian day. Meanwhile, Mr. Burns welcomes many new non-union workers to the Power Plant, with the intention of having them replace the old workers. When Homer is made to take out the trash at the party, he almost throws it into the reactor core chute but stops at the last second and throws it into the trash chute. Meanwhile, Mr. Burns asks Smithers to plug his phone into an overloaded plug socket, which starts a fire. Everyone evacuates the power plant as it melts down and Springfield loses its power. The employees then all blame Homer for the fire, thinking he started it.

When Homer gets home, he installs the storm windows and gets new batteries for the flashlights. Marge thinks that Homer is making up for causing the blackout, despite him telling her that he didn't do it. Marge doesn't believe him as he's caused so many problems in the past. Angry townspeople also start to throw bricks through the windows of the house. Meanwhile, Mayor Quimby announces that the town will start doing death games, with them hunting Milhouse the next day and Lisa begins to read Little Cabin on the Plain.

The next day, Marge finds that all the food in the fridge has gone, and accuses Homer of eating it all. As Homer tries to explain himself, she cuts him off and goes away. Meanwhile, Bart goes outside where he attempts to use the last of his cell phone's power, only for it to die. Comic Book Guy then walks past ranting about The Matrix Resurrections, with Gil following him. When Homer goes to Moe's Tavern, he finds that he's a pariah and not wanted there. He then goes home and Grampa shows up with logs for the fire. Grampa plays music for the family and they all go to sleep in the same bed. That night, the people of Springfield take the Simpsons house out of town and leave it precariously sitting on a rock formation.

As the Simpsons get used to living in their new location, Homer shows Marge a photo of him burying the food from the fridge in the snow to keep it fresh. Marge realizes that he wasn't lying about the food, so he might not be lying about causing the fire. The family then decides to go after Mr. Burns as they suspect him as the real culprit. When they arrive at Burns' manor, Burns tries to send the family down a trap door, but it doesn't open because of the lack of power. The family then steps into his dining room and confronts him about causing the fire. Burns is then arrested and made to pay a fine to the town. Marge then invites the people of Springfield to have dinner with them, in return for putting their house back.

In the future again, Bart had died of boredom from the story. His hologram then tries to eat a turkey leg, but Homer's hologram takes the turkey from him and they go back and forth eating the same bit. In the present, Homer reads The Christmas Orange to Lisa.
