Song Information
|
"We Love to Smoke" is a song sung by Patty and Selma Bouvier.
Lyrics
- Patty:
- We love to smoke. [wheezes]
- Selma:
- Till our lungs turn gray.
- We love to smoke. [wheezes]
- Patty:
- Seventeen packs a day.
- [Selma coughs]
- Patty:
- We love to smoke! [chokes and rasps]
- Selma:
- Like a chim-chiminey.
- Although, we'll croak [hacks and chokes]
- Patty:
- Before 2000 and 3.
- [Shary Bobbins, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Patty and Selma wheeze and cough until the end of the song. The smoke forms two gravestones with 'Patty' and 'Selma' written on them]
Behind the Laughter
The song was cut because it did not receive any laughs. A demo recording exists of the song featuring Julie Kavner singing with just a piano, guitar, bass, and drums without a full orchestra. It was to be a parody of the song "I Love to Laugh" from the film Mary Poppins and also contains a reference to another song from that film, "Chim Chim Cherr-ee". The music was written by Alf Clausen and the lyrics by Al Jean and Mike Reiss. It is the first bonus track on the album Go Simpsonic with The Simpsons. The song is included in a deleted scene in the Season 8 DVD Boxset. However, only the last four lines of the song were used.
