Episode Information
|
"The Simpsons Guy" is the first episode of Family Guy's season 13. It was a one-hour premiere, originally airing on September 28, 2014. "The Simpsons Guy" was the first official The Simpsons - Family Guy crossover episode.
Summary[edit]
- "Peter and the Griffins get out of dodge and end up in Springfield, where they are greeted by a friendly stranger named Homer Simpson, who welcomes his new "albino" friends with open arms. The families get along famously: Stewie and Bart make out like bandits when Stewie trades in his mind control device for a good old-fashioned slingshot; Lisa takes Meg under her wing and teaches her the saxophone; Marge and Lois ditch housework for a little bonding; and Peter and Homer fight over the best beer in town – Pawtucket vs. Duff.[1]"
Production[edit]
"The Simpsons Guy" is the first official crossover episode between The Simpsons and Family Guy. However, Dan Castellaneta previously voiced Homer Simpson in the Family Guy episode "Ratings Guy" whilst Seth MacFarlane voiced Ben in the season 24 episode "Dangers on a Train". Peter Griffin has also made a couple of appearances in The Simpsons whilst many The Simpsons characters have appeared in Family Guy.
The writers of Family Guy wrote the episode, rather than the writers of The Simpsons, although the executive producers of The Simpsons tweaked a few lines. Bob Belcher from Bob's Burgers, Fred Flintstone from The Flintstones and Roger Smith from American Dad! also appeared in the crossover episode.[2] Current Family Guy producer and former Simpsons producer Richard Appel is the one who proposed the idea of the crossover to The Simpsons producers. The Simpsons producers were happy with this, as long as they didn't kill off characters and didn't destroy Springfield.
A 5 minute sample of clips from the episode was shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2014.
An unused gag involved a comparison between the Simpsons' and the Griffins' station wagons.
