Cultural references
- The title is a reference to The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
- "The Calvary Kids' (actually the Pre-Teen Braves') Version of the National Anthem" is a parody of "The Star-Spangled Banner".
- In this episode, Bart and Milhouse are seen watching an episode of South Park, in which Stan, Kyle, and Cartman are attending a concert with a murderous O.J. Simpson. This was in response to a South Park episode entitled, "Simpsons Already Did It", in which Butters finds that all of his original ideas were previously used on The Simpsons, and is subsequently driven insane. The episode references many specific Simpsons episodes, scenarios, and characters.
- Marge is holding the Québec flag along with the Canadian flag when they are singing "O Canada". This is a reference to how the French-Canadian province for years now have wanted to become an independent nation.

Goofs
- In the panning shot of people fighting, Dr. Hibbert and Dr. Nick can be seen behind Rainier Wolfcastle, but they then suddenly disappear.
- When people run onto the baseball field, one group of people are running straight over what's supposed to be the seating areas.
- In the aforementioned shot, Kent Brockman is wearing a short sleeved, blue shirt, however in the panning shot of people fighting, he's wearing his regular attire.
- When the fight scene starts, Bart and Milhouse move all the way from the centerfield to the edge of the pitch and back again.
- When Chase tells Homer to lay off Kirk, Moe is slightly off-model.
- When the fighting starts Carl is talking to Lenny in the seating area, but a few moments later, Carl is on the field fighting an off-screen opponent.
