Cultural references[edit]
- The episode's title, which is also Homer's manager stage name, is a play on Colonel Tom Parker, who was famous for being the talent manager of Elvis Presley.
- Some of the films being played at the Springfield Googolplex Theatres have names that parody real-world films:
- Honey, I Hit a School Bus is a pun on Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
- Look Who's Oinking is a pun on Look Who's Talking.
- Ernest vs. The Pope and Ernest Cut the Cheese are references to the Ernest film series in which the main character, Ernest, is often put in ridiculous situations.
- The Beer -N- Brawl redneck bar is based on the bar in the film Urban Cowboy.
- Lenny sings Herman's Hermits single "There's a Kind of Hush" at Barney's Bowlarama.
- Homer says that the last song before Lurleen's "Your Wife Don't Understand You" that he could not get out of his mind was "Funkytown", the famous 1980 hit by Lipps Inc.
- Krusty tells Mel to take her sister to the Copa, a reference to The Copacabana, a famous New York City nightclub that has existed in several locations.
- When Homer is driving to visit Lurleen at the Royal King Trailer Park in Spittle County, he passes by a boy playing the banjo on a porch. This character is based on that in the "Dueling Banjos" scene from the 1972 film Deliverance.
- According to the seller at The Corpulent Cowboy, Homer's suit was made specially for Elvis Presley.
- American singer Buddy Holly was once at the Hicksville U.S.A. Recording Studio in 1958.
- Lurleen is on the Variety magazine cover.
- The country-western themed variety show Ya Hoo! is a parody of Hee Haw.

- At The Beer -N- Brawl:
- A horse is seen hitched outside.
- The bar sells Fudd Beer, as well as the High Tar variant of Laramie Cigarettes.
- Yodelin' Zeke appears both as a solo artist (at The Beer -N- Brawl) and as part of the Ya Hoo! cast. At The Beer -N- Brawl, Zeke is hit over the head with a chair. When Zeke is introduced in the Ya Hoo! opening credits in the episode in which Lurleen Lumpkin appeared, he has bandages on his head, indicating that the episode was produced not long after the chair incident at The Beer -N- Brawl.
- When the family arrives at Springfield Googolplex Theatres, they park in "Section M"
- The Royal King Trailer Park has gone 14 days without a tornado.
- On top of the County Dump is a cow.
- The interior shots of the Gogoloplex are clearly reused shots of the Aztec Theater.
Deleted scenes[edit]
Before Lurleen's performance of "Bagged Me a Homer" at the recording studio, Bart and Lisa argue over country singers. This footage was included in a promo of the episode and can be found on the DVD, but the full scene is not.
