Cultural references
- The title of the episode is a parody of The Great Gatsby.
- Mr. Burns believes Smithers is "probably sipping hot buttered rum in a ski chalet overlooking Lake Louise." Lake Louise is located in the Canadian Rockies 112 miles (180 km) west of Calgary, Alberta where the nation's first permanent ski chalet was built. It was named for Queen Victoria's fourth daughter Princess Louise.
- When Homer and Burns see there's another party in another mansion at the lake, Burns says "Great Gatsby!".
- On one of the invitations, two of the "imaginary" friends to which Smithers referred are Mr. and Mrs. Popeye T. Sailorman, a reference to Popeye The Sailor Man and his girlfriend Olive Oyl.
- "Lengthy Island" is Long Island.
- The Springfield Hamptons are a parody of the Long Island Hamptons.
- The drawings of the Springfield Hamptons are in the style of Roz Chast's cartoons for the The New Yorker.
- Mega Stuff is a cheap version of Oreo.
- Homer references Rick Ross and Betsy Ross.
- The Laudanum B is a reference to laudanum, a tincture of opium containing approximately 10% powdered opium by weight.
- Charles Barkley tells Mr. Burns he is still better than Shaq, referencing Shaquille O'Neal.
- The Golden Goose Brake Pads box has Lil Wayne on it.
- Jay G mentions Hufflepuff and Slytherin, from Harry Potter, in a song.
- "BlackLake" Investments is a parody of BlackRock, the world's largest asset management company.
