Cultural references
- The title of the episode is a reference to the season 7 episode "Much Apu About Nothing".
- The episode title is also a pun on the Shakespeare comedy Much Ado About Nothing.
- One of the scratchers is a "The Big Bang Theory" one, with images of Sheldon Cooper and Howard Wolowitz.
- Wiggum makes reference to Grand Theft Auto.
- Homer references Al Pacino.
- The Lincoln Memorial, the Liberty Bell, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Mount Rushmore appears.
- Apu references Gunga Din and Archibald Cutter from the movie Gunga Din.
- Bart sings a Doxology after he says that without Homer strangling him, his throat is finally healing.
- A Clockwork Orange: When Bart decides to return to his prankster ways, he puts on spiked eyelashes that resemble Alex's. Homer then laments buying Bart the video for his fifth birthday (he thought it would help Bart learn how to tell time).
- The cover of the song "The Best" by Tina Turner is played when the Springfield Fire Department is getting away after failing to extinguish the fire from the Quick & Fresh.

Goofs
- In a scene, Sanjay wears a Kwik-E-Mart employee T-Shirt and then his usual clothes.
- When Manjula was presenting the Quick & Fresh to Apu, the workers push the Kwik-E-Mart picture to Apu's right, but a few seconds later, he jumps to the left to hug the picture.
- When the Police Tank is first seen, Ralph is in the same hatch as Lou, but in later scenes, Ralph is gone.
Trivia
- Snake Jailbird's prisoner number is "7F20". Snake made his first appearance in the episode "The War of the Simpsons", which has the production code "7F20".
