Synopsis
- "After a fight in an escape room, Krusty's truth-telling Aunt fixes Homer's relationship with Patty and Selma.[1]"
Plot
For Patty and Selma's birthday, the Simpson family goes to Fun Once Escape Rooms for a puzzle party. The squeaky-voiced teen explains the hint system, but Selma confidently states they won't need it. As the teen closes the door, Bart slips out, and the one-hour countdown begins. Almost immediately, Homer uses two hints: one in an attempt to open a painted door and another to insult the sisters. This angers them as it ruins their streak, leading to an argument that Marge has to break up.
Meanwhile, Krusty's aunt, Sadie, visits him to join Sideshow Mel's podcast. Krusty, unaware the podcast exists, accompanies her to Earmoose Studios, where Mel is recording Talking Krusty: the Official Rewatch Podcast with Wayne the Grip and Jodie from props. Sadie suggests Krusty join the podcast with his coworkers.
Back at the escape room, the timer is almost up, and their search for the keys has failed. They ask for a hint, and Jeremy reveals Homer had been using the key to scratch himself for 20 minutes. The timer runs out, and they lose. Another fight breaks out, and they accidentally break through the wall into the neighboring room, where the Flanders family is playing.
Sadie helps Krusty realize he has never bonded with his coworkers and warns him he'll die alone if he doesn't change. At The Ugh! Network, Lindsey Naegle listens to the podcast and gets the idea for a show called The Problem Is You, starting with the Hibbert family.
At home, Homer cleans up some board games. Lisa tries to convince him to reconcile with Patty and Selma, but he refuses. Marge secretly texts the sisters, pretending she injured herself to get them to visit, though she admits she did hurt herself a little. She suggests Sadie could help them resolve their problems.
The sisters recount how their feud started at Marge's baby shower, where they argued over her favorite cake: chocolate or carrot. Marge reveals she actually prefers vanilla. The argument continues, but Sadie intervenes, pointing out that Marge perpetuates their separation to maintain her martyr status. Marge, unwilling to face this, pushes everyone out of the house.
Outside, Krusty admits to Wayne that he wants to join the crew, acknowledging that the divide between "talent" and crew is meaningless. Wayne invites him to a crawfish boil with the others.
That night, Homer reflects on Sadie's words and wonders if he could get along with Patty and Selma without Marge's influence. The next morning, he invites them to Springfield Squidport and then to Moe's, where Moe falls for them. Over beers, they bond, share friendly jokes, go bowling, watch a movie, and successfully complete another escape room. On their way out, they encounter Marge and the kids. Marge realizes she may be the problem and is comforted by Lisa and Bart.
At the crawfish boil, Krusty causes chaos within seconds by throwing a rugby ball into a pot, creating a fire, and injuring himself on a bike.
During the season finale of The Problem Is You, the families gather, and Marge grows increasingly stressed as they repeatedly label her the problem. The group eventually regrets their fighting, and Sadie tries to intervene. Marge argues that issues requiring years of work can't be solved with a catchphrase in 30 minutes. Chaos ensues as the couples argue again.
In the end, Krusty fails to understand the lesson, insisting he's not the problem when he clearly is. As everyone leaves, Percival unties the rope holding the show's sign, which falls on Sadie, killing her. At the funeral, Krusty continues acting superior until Jimmy hits his groin, bringing him back to reality.
