- "The Duff Book of World Records" and its history is a reference to The Guinness Book of World Records.
- When Agnes Skinner and Hans Moleman run away from the giant ball of people, it srongly resembles the scene where Indiana Jones runs away from the giant rock at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- Count Fudgula is a parody of the General Mills cereal mascot Count Chocula.
- The fat man who wants to be registered as the most famous living actor in the world is in reference to Marlon Brando as established by AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars for the year of release of the episode. In the last years of his life Brando fattened a lot really.
- in the library Nick Riviera reads Gray's anatomy a real scientific reference text on the human body.

- Hans Moleman and Agnes Skinner were seen running away from the ball of people, but when the scene is played in slow-motion, Moleman and Agnes can be seen already in the ball of people.
- When the camera pans down the pyramid to Krusty and Drederick Tatum, Professor Lombardo has Bleeding Gums Murphy's colors.
- When Homer starts climbing the pyramid, Superintendent Chalmers has Mr. Largo's colors.
- In the courtroom scene, Mrs. Glick has Helen Lovejoy's colors.
- Several people on the pyramid are the wrong color.
