- Yuk-ingham Palace store's name is a parody of the Buckingham Palace in London.
- Milhouse tries some X-ray specs, the American novelty item, and he can't see through lead, just like Superman, to whom certain materials block his X-ray vision.
- Bart wears bolts on his neck like Frankenstein's monster.
- After opening the camera, Marge loses her recordings of a visit to the Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
- Comic Book Guy asking Lisa three questions is a nod to a scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- The military base Area 51-A is a reference to Area 51.
- The telephone booth Lisa uses in Springfield's Russian district has an onion dome on top, similar to those on Saint Basil's Cathedral.
