Cultural references[edit]

  • The episode title is a pun on the 1970s television series The Partridge Family.
  • The Bloodbath & Beyond Gun Shop, where Homer buys his gun:
  • The song playing when Homer is sitting and watching things go by while he is waiting five days for his gun is The Waiting by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Petty rarely lets his music be used on television, but being a fan of The Simpsons, he allowed them to use it for this episode.[1]
  • The snippet of music at the end when Marge leaves the hotel with the gun is from the theme to the 1960s TV show The Avengers.

Trivia[edit]

  • Springfield appears to have very loose gun laws, the only one mentioned being the five day waiting period.
  • It is legal to own a fully automatic weapon in Springfield as displayed at the firing range.
  • Lenny and Moe appear to be owning AR-15s with Moe's being converted to automatic.
  • Mr. Burns in an earlier episode mentioned that Homer not only was definitely not his assailant, but he couldn't have been his assailant due to lacking the appropriate fingers and the cranial capacity to fire a gun.
  • Homer background check states he was put in a mental institution ("Stark Raving Dad"), has frequent problems with alcohol and beat up former President George H.W. Bush ("Two Bad Neighbors").

Goofs[edit]

  • Several people at the soccer match change seats.
  • In the shot of the crowd cheering, Arnie Pie has Charlie's colors.
  • When Lenny punches Principal Skinner, Superintendent Chalmers' hair changes from grey to blue.
  • When the family is having dinner, Marge's necklace briefly changes from red to white in one scene.
  • When Homer puts his gun on the kitchen table, the space between the gun's trigger and the barrel briefly turns yellow instead of transparent.
