Cultural references[edit]

• The title could be a reference to the song "My Foolish Heart", in particular the line "beware my foolish heart".
  • The title cloud also be a pun on "Be Still My Beating Heart", which is the title of a song by Sting and a centuries-old catchphrase denoting breathless excitement, particularly in a romantic context.
• The title screen gag and chalkboard gag are references to Matt Groening's having revealed in an interview that the Simpsons' Springfield was named for Springfield, Oregon.
• Films seen at Springfield Mall reference to many recently released films:
  • Jackass: The Funeral is a reference to the Jackass franchise and possibly to Jackass member Ryan Dunn, who died in June 2011.
  • Cars 3: New Merchandise is a reference to Disney-Pixar's Cars franchise.
  • Horrible Premise is a reference to Horrible Bosses.
  • Happy Little Elves II: The Sequelf is a reference to Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (the second live action theatrical film starring Alvin and the Chipmunks).
  • Transformers of the Caribbean is a reference to the Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises.
  • Crawlspace is a parody the 1986 horror film of the same name.
• During the montage of scenes with Shauna and Bart going on dates:
  • The song playing is "April Come She Will" by Simon and Garfunkel, playing over a montage which references many scenes from the 1967 film The Graduate, featuring the same song over a similar-themed montage.
  • The scene where Bart and Milhouse are crossing the road is a reference to the movie Midnight Cowboy, the movie that Dustin Hoffman starred in following The Graduate.

Strange glyphs

• Stranded is an obvious parody of Lost.
  • The strange glyphs on the mountain say, "Watch Futurama Thursdays at 10" in the Futurama alien alphabet.
  • "The Lava Being" is a parody of the Smoke Monster.
• TV shows found on the Butt-Whisperer 9000 are:
  • Alaska Nebraska, a parody of Hannah Montana.
  • The Chimpsons, a parody of The Simpsons.
  • Ice Road Joggers, a parody of Ice Road Truckers.
  • Keeping Up with the Krustofskys, a parody of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
  • Thicker than Waters, a parody of Growing Pains.
  • Queen of Kings, a parody of The King of Queens.

• Comic Book Guy tells Bart and Shauna to think of The Android's Dungeon as their personal Asgard and to think of him as their all-seeing Heimdall, guardian of the Gate, a reference to the Thor comics.
• When Comic Book Guy gets into a flame war with Shauna, he says "oh, flame on", the Human Torch's catchphrase.
• The comic book From Heck is a reference to Alan Moore's From Hell comic book series.
• The Little Lola comic book is a reference to the Little Lulu comic strip.

Trivia[edit]

• It says "Steve" on Squeaky-voiced teen's nametag at The Brown Burrito.
• Marge is kind to Jimbo, Dolph and Kearney in this episode, however in "The Blue and the Gray", Jimbo shouts an insult at her, and Marge backs up the car to tell him off, and the bullies run away. Marge being nice could have been because she had forgiven him, forgotten about the insult, or did not know that it was him that insulted her.
• In the International/online version of this episode, the title screen gag is repeated from the episode "Elementary School Musical", and the chalkboard gag is "Teacher does not have to pay an "Ugly Tax"". The episode's original title screen gag and chalkboard gag appears in the version of the episode broadcast in the UK.

Goofs[edit]

• When Homer is saying "Watch whatever you want...", Milhouse is in front of a Transformers of the Caribbean movie poster and Bart is standing next to him. Then Homer, Bart and Milhouse keep walking. Afterwards, Homer looks round at them, but the boys are in exactly the same position as they were.
• Jimbo mentions that Bart has two baby teeth. He lost his last baby tooth in "Fat Man and Little Boy".
• When Jimbo picks Bart up to see if he's a good chaperone for Shauna, he smudges a temporary tattoo on Bart's arm. The tattoo was not there before he wiped it off, and is not there when Jimbo puts Bart back down on the ground.
• When Homer looks out the window to see Jimbo holding Bart upside-down by his ankles, as the shots change, the treehouse moves place slightly. The window also changes design.
• Kearney said he had to clean out the crawlspace the next day, but Jimbo said later that they were going to a seminar.
