- The title of the episode is a reference to the 1982 movie Fitzcarraldo.
- In the movie, a steamship is pulled up a mountain; similarly, the Springfielders later pull Deuce's Caboose up a steep hill.
- The blackboard text makes reference to the various predictions the show has made on many things, like Super Bowl LI's Lady Gaga performance in Lisa Goes Gaga. In the text, Bart says Homer bet on Atlanta's win and he lost the bet. In the Super Bowl LI Atlanta lost to the New England Patriots.
- Dominoes pizza boxes are a reference to Domino's Pizza and its Simpsons commercial.
