Future Cop!/References

Cultural references[edit]
- The title is a reference to the television series Future Cop, which aired in 1977 and starred Ernest Borgnine.
- Back to the Future:
- Marty McFly and a girl who identifies herself as his "clone-daughter" are riding on hoverboards.
- The town they are in resembles the Hill Valley of 2015, as seen in Back to the Future Part II.
- A movie theatre is showing Finding Nemo 19, a reference to the Hill Valley theatre showing Jaws 19.
- When Snake steals Marty's bitcoins, he is dressed like Griff Tannen.
- Transformers: Wiggum's rifle/partner "Officer Shooty" can transform into a flying robot.
- The "Future Cop" uniforms worn by Chief Wiggum and Officer Cornelius look like Street Judges from Judge Dredd.
- Officer Shooty doesn't wear a uniform, but he does have a badge in the same style as the Street Judges' badges.
- When Shooty arrests Snake and reads him his rights, he says, "If you are in space, you have the right to have no one hear you scream", a reference to the tagline from Alien.
- At Future Police Headquarters:
- Wiggum's boss is Police Commissioner Zordon, a parody of Zordon from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as well as a pun on Commissioner Gordon from Batman.
- RoboCop: An anti-drug poster reads "Talk to your kids about Nuke", which was the designer drug being produced and sold by the villain's gang in RoboCop 2.
- Another poster reads "This is your brain. This is your brain on Tek.", a reference to the "This is Your Brain on Drugs" TV and poster advertising campaign of the 1980s.
- Wiggum has a holographic communications device on his wrist, similar to Dick Tracy's wrist radio.
- Planet of the Apes: When Shooty has the weekend off, Wiggum is partnered with an ape named Officer Cornelius. Wiggum later disintegrates Cornelius because "He joined the rebel apes and tried to overthrow humanity."
- Wiggum and Cornelius pull George Jetson over for ejecting his son from a flying vehicle, even though George protests that he was dropping him off at school. George's protest is a reference to the opening sequence of The Jetsons, where George does indeed drop Elroy off at school by ejecting him (safely, in a floating bubble) from his air car.
- Soylent Green: A storefront advertises "Discount Soylent".
- Wiggum and Cornelius later arrest Charlie Chan for littering (leaving origami cranes in the street).
- Blade Runner: A man with a gun chases another man down the street, yelling "You're a replicant!" at him. The man being chased yells back, "I know you are, but what am I?", a reference to the controversy about whether Deckard is a human being or a replicant.
- Star Wars: Wiggum and Cornelius eat at a restaurant called Do or Donut, a reference to Yoda's "Do or do not" catchphrase. Also, the restaurant has on its roof a statue of Yoda levitating a giant donut.
- RoboCop: Wiggum's ex-partner Murphy shows up at Do or Donut and starts an argument with Cornelius. Wiggum calms Murphy down and Murphy walks away, upset, with an ED-209 droid with whom he seems to be friends (or partners).
- Wiggum and Cornelius respond to a dispute between neighbors in Terminator Town.
- One of the neighbors is a Terminator endoskeleton complaining about the other's dog pooping on his lawn. The other, who looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator character, says he was going to pick up the poop later and "I told him I'd be back!", echoing one of Schwarzenegger's Terminator catchphrases.
- The endosleleton's backyard landscaping consists of a layer of human skulls, which is a recurring visual in post-Judgement Day scenes from the films.
- When Wiggum and Cornelius leave, Wiggum says his first two visits to Terminator Town were great, but they got lamer after that, a reference to the consensus among Terminator fans and critics that the third and later movies weren't as good as the first two.
- Leeloo from The Fifth Element falls seemingly out of nowhere and lands on the windshield of Wiggum's and Cornelius's air car, as she does to Korben Dallas's flying taxi in the film.
- Back to the Future: Leeloo jumps off of the police air car and bounces off of the flying DeLorean, with Doc Brown at the wheel.
- Mork & Mindy: When Wiggum receives a report of a domestic dispute, he exclaims "Shazbot!" in dismay.
- The couple in the domestic dispute are an Alien Queen and a Yautja warrior from Predator. The conflict escalates and the Predator activates the self-destruct device in his wrist gauntlet. The resulting explosion destroys the entire neighborhood and Wiggum and Cornelius escape barely in time, similar to the end of the first Predator movie. The visual as they fly away is also similar to the end of Aliens.
- Wiggum is sent to stop a riot at the space jail. Among the rioters are the following:
- An Aqualish (walrus man) from Star Wars
- Kang and Kodos
- Khan from Star Trek II
- Maximilian from The Black Hole
- Morbo and Bender from Futurama
- An alien that resembles the Flatwoods monster
- Doctor Strange
- A Dalek from Doctor Who
- Hellboy
- Simon Phoenix from Demolition Man
- Also, Wiggum wields a lightsaber as he works to put down the riot.
- When Wiggum wakes up from his dream, he's at the Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con. The attendees include people costumed as the following:
- A Cylon from Battlestar Galactica
- A Visitor from V
- Gort from The Day the Earth Stood Still
- Twiki from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
- Alf
- Uncle Martin from My Favorite Martian
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Booberella
- Batman
- Spider-Man
- Neytiri from Avatar
- Mr. Spock
- Goku from Dragon Ball
- Hellboy
- R2-D2
- Wonder Woman
- Deadpool
- Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Hulk
- The Flash
- The caption box at the end says "Chief Wiggum will return in Future Cop 2: A Fistful of Future!", a reference to A Fistful of Dollars.
Continuity[edit]
- Chief Wiggum also drinks warm cream and subsequently experiences a bizarre dream in the television episode "Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part Two)".
