Synopsis[edit]
- "Lisa infiltrates a convent in order to steal back Maggie who was accidentally taken in by nuns. While in the convent, Lisa uncovers a series of cryptic clues leading to a hidden jewel in Springfield. With help from resident history buffs Principal Skinner and Comic Book Guy, Lisa sets off to find the coveted prize. But Springfield's Freemasons are also hot on the trail of the jewel, and Lisa must race against them to find the jewel and rescue Maggie."

Homer and Bart, however, get into a fight, causing Homer to crush his camera obscura device, which every member of the family has to view the eclipse. Marge, out of pity, gives Homer her device, leaving her as the only one not able to see the eclipse. Not wanting to miss out, she looks at the eclipse directly, which causes damage to her eyes. "Gone Maggie Gone" was nominated for a 2009 Annie Award for Writing in a Television Production, but it lost to "Treehouse of Horror XX".[3] It was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards. However, it lost to "Margaritaville" from South Park. It was also nominated for a 2010 Writers Guild of America award in Animation, but it lost to "Wedding for Disaster".[4]
Composer Alf Clausen was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series in the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards for "Gone Maggie Gone". However, it lost to "Prophecy" from Legend of the Seeker.[5]
