Synopsis
- Lisa and Bart investigate Krusty's suspicious new "Krustaceans" candy after seeing strange behavior in kids eating it. Meanwhile, Homer wants a promotion at the nuclear plant and asks Marge to help him dress the part, and news anchor Kent Brockman struggles to find his footing in the changing media world.
Plot
Bart and Lisa are watching Krusty's show, and after showing The Itchy and Scratchy Show's episode "Mousetrapping a Murderer", Krusty introduces his new product, Krustaceans, a candy that even Krusty likes, which Bart already received thanks to Krusty Prime.
Meanwhile, at the Power Plant, Homer finds out that Tibor Jankovsky, an employee who barely speaks English, just got a corner office with many perks. Motivated by his Ambition—newly freed in his brain from being held in a cell by Apathy and Alcoholism—Homer decides to improve his chances for a promotion by changing his appearance.
Grampa watches with other war veterans at a bar as The Late Late Late Night with Jimmy Jimmy airs, featuring special guest Kent Brockman, who begins telling false war stories. However, an Iraq War veteran exposes his lies and forces him to apologize on Channel 6 News. This ends up being Kent's final report, as he is fired, replaced by Arnie Pye, and thrown out of Channel 6, losing both his phone and his car.
Meanwhile, Homer asks Marge for help updating his wardrobe. Marge is surprised but agrees. On the school bus, Lisa notices strange behavior among kids eating Krustaceans and convinces Bart to investigate the factory.
Marge and Homer go to the Springfield Mall and enter Rod Lewin's "Restricted"™ Lifestyle Gallerium, where Homer undergoes a full style transformation. Outside the mall, they run into Kent, who tries to interview them, but Homer refuses.
Bart and Lisa arrive at the factory and discover that the candy is chemically produced by robots. They steal samples of the product.
Kent becomes depressed and asks his agent for new work but fails to secure a job. Meanwhile, Homer impresses Lenny and Carl with his new suit and prepares to ask for a promotion.
Bart and Lisa bring the candy samples to Professor Frink, who identifies the presence of Formaldehyde. Lisa brings the findings to Channel 6, but they refuse to report the story since Krusty is one of their biggest stars and Formaldehyde is one of their biggest sponsors.
Kent continues searching for a job, but even an opportunity with BizzFad falls through when the company goes bankrupt after meeting with him. Homer then goes to Mr. Burns to ask for a promotion, but Burns dislikes the new style and kicks both him and Smithers out.
Bart and Lisa approach Kent to report the story, but he refuses. At the Former Anchor Support Group Meeting, Kent is encouraged by others and reconsiders Lisa's offer.
Back home, Homer tells Marge about his failure. His Ambition can't help him this time, as it's ejected from his ear by Apathy, Alcoholism, Anger, and Awe, so he heads to Moe's.
Lisa and Kent confront Krusty at Krustylu Studios and successfully film the exchange. The exposé helps Kent get his job back, and he vows to stop lying, also thanking Lisa.
