Trivia
- Quentin Tarantino declined to appear as himself.
- Julie Andrews was the planned choice for Shary Bobbins, but the staff went with Maggie Roswell instead after hearing her performance.
Cultural references
- This episode is a parody of Mary Poppins, particularly the 1964 musical film. It shares a similar storyline, parody musical numbers, and Shary's name itself is wordplay on Mary's.
- One of the nanny auditionees was a kindly old lady, Homer reacted to this by saying: "Wait Marge I saw Mrs. Doubtfire; this is a man in drag!"
- The title is a pun on the song "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius".
- Ricky Rouse and Monald Muck are parodies of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
- When Bart tests Shary Bobbins, asking "What will you do? What will you do?" he is echoing Karl Malden's words and delivery in one of his commercials for American Express Travelers Checks.
Goofs
- When Chief Wiggum is shown during the "Cut Every Corner" number, Snake is robbing Hans Moleman in the background, but the former is shown with blue hair.
Continuity
- This is the second time Barney has said "So long, Superman", the first time was in "Mr. Plow" with Adam West.
