Synopsis
- "Homer is demoted to supervising interns, among whom is go-getter millennial Mike, a 35-year-old who asks Homer to be his mentor. However, when Homer inspires Mike to start a business of his own, the two find themselves being chased by the mob."
Plot
At the Power Plant, it's Lenny's birthday. The workers prepared a surprise party chipping in $5 each, but Mr. Burns entered just before Lenny did, signed the wish card in giant text and not chip in, giving Lenny the happy birthday and ruining the surprise, making Homer angry the whole party.
The family then are removing the snow from their front garden, and Homer keeps complaining to them too, and when Marge consoles him and makes him calm, he has a vision of Burns' signature impaling Marge's chest, just before waking up from what was really a nightmare.
The next day, he confronted Burns on the fact and Burns easily chipped in, but when Smithers finds out, he informs Homer that the skin thichener medication he's using makes him uncontrollably decent. For that Homer is demoted to supervisor of the interns.
When the interns start making fun of Homer, Mike Wegman stands up and defends him, demanding respect for him and asking him to be his mentor. The family goes to Costington's to dress him for being a mentor and Homer is so proud, even though his being fat causes people to laugh at him when his pants fall to the floor.
Homer takes him to his work station, and Mike reveals he's 35, and when Homre asks him why he wants a job of a 20 year old he says he wanted to follow the steps of his hero. Homer invites him for dinner to show his family his new pupil and how he admires him.
Mike brings his pregnant wife Maurine to the dinner and Bart starts disrespecting Homer and Mike starts insulting him leaving the whole table with mouth open, except Lisa that is laughing hard at the insults and Bart choking and crying. Marge proceeds to kick them out of the house afterwards. In bed Marge proposes Homer to help Mike grow up.
Homer proceeds to push Mike over his project of creating "Mike's slices", a new way of producing pizza and ask Burns to be the investor, but when Burns starts insulting Homer, Mike loses it again, getting shot by Burns old shotgun.
At home, Homer reveals to Mike he's not the mentor he thinks he's and the accidents that happen were his fault, but that pushes Mike further, and he comes back with a Mike's Slices food truck, which money to buy it he loaned from Fat Tony.
When he loses the bet he did to repay Fat Tony, they excape to the Auto Yard, the food truck graveyard, but Tony finds them. When Tony smells the slices, he takes them for the rest of his guys, and Mike suggests taking bets on the truck too. The food truck is parked then outside the Power Plant for purposes, including selling weed. In the end Tony congratulates Homer on being a great mentor.
Production
The idea for the episode came after the producers heard Michael Rapaport on the I AM RAPAPORT: STEREO PODCAST.[1] A scene where Marge says about Mike Wegman "He called the cat 'this jerk-off over here' was cut by Fox.[2] In a deleted scene, Louie and Johnny Tightlips, while searching for Homer and Mike, shoot the Sauce-a-Lito food truck. Johnny samples the blood coming out of it saying "marinara", then opens the door to find the owner, Tony Marinara, in it, dead from the shot.[3]
