- The episode title is a pun on Pygmalion from Greek mythology.
- When Duffman comes on stage, "Oh Yeah" by Yello plays.
- Duffman says that trick beer pouring qualifies as course credit at Dartmouth College.
- The song playing over the trick beer pouring contest is "Hippy Hippy Shake" by The Georgia Satellites, which is similar to a scene in the movie Cocktail.
- Moe sings a sample of the song "Silver Bells" by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans when he's on the operating table.
- In a flashback scene, Moe as a young man auditions for the role of Tad Winslow on It Never Ends, but is rejected by producer Helen Morehouse for being too ugly. Morehouse explains to a colleague, "I want Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island ugly, not Cornelius on The Planet of the Apes ugly."

- Lenny says that no women have been in their bar, but in "Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment", there were women in it.
- This is one of the only three times a word has been censored on The Simpsons (words were also censored in "Treehouse of Horror IX" and "Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner?"). It is censored while Homer reveals the soap opera's plotline.
- When the Simpsons arrive at the Duff Beer festival, they are wearing their normal clothes while on the way they are still wearing their pajamas.
- In the season 23 episode "Them, Robot", in a flashback, Moe had the same handsome face when he was just a kid before getting stomped on by a parade elephant.

Goofs
- When the children line up to go on the drunk simulator, Lewis has Wendell's colors.
- After Homer puts in the cassette tape a fifth toe briefly appears on Lisa's right foot.
- Only Marge, Skinner and Apu are in the "Duff Designated Drivers's Rockin' Fun Zone" in the first scene. In the next scene, the zone is much bigger and there is also Kirk inside of it.
