"D'oh Canada" is the twenty-first episode of season 30 of The Simpsons and the six-hundred and sixtieth episode overall. It originally aired on April 28, 2019. The episode was written by Tim Long and Miranda Thompson and directed by Matthew Nastuk. It guest stars Lucas Meyer as Justin Trudeau, Judy Blume as herself and Awkwafina as Dr. Chang.
Synopsis[edit]
- "On a family vacation to Niagara Falls, Lisa is mistakenly granted political asylum in Canada. When Marge goes to rescue Lisa, they are forced to re-evaluate their love for America as they navigate the polite Canadian landscape."
Plot[edit]
The Simpson family is at Mt. Splashmore, in line to ride the waterslide, when Homer starts saying "Points" and taking them away when they just reached the top, getting in the car and leaving the now "biological warfare test range" location.
Homer has earned 2 million hotel rewards loyalty points, and takes them to Niagara Falls, traveling through Upstate New York singing a song. At the falls, Bart and Lisa starts bouncing against each other at Battle for the Fall game, but she bounces too hard down the falls, where she gets rescued by a Canadian mountie.
She's taken to the Emergency room in the hospital where Dr. Chang starts taking care of her, saying she's fine but recommended a five day stay to make sure. When Homer mentioned taking out another mortgage, Dr. Change reminded him that they were in Canada and their healthcare was free. Lisa starts to rant to the Canadian mountie about America, she gave her an injection that calmed her down.
When they don't want to leave her there, they deported the rest of the family, and placed Lisa in a foster home. Springfield takes a bad hit once Lisa leaves, including the Springfield Elementary School Band. Lisa starts attending Alanis Morissette Elementary School, and asked if she could send a note to Justin Trudeau to apologize for what the American president had said about him.
She is taken to talk to him on Skype. He's annoyed at being called "weak", demonstrating his strength to her. Lisa then asked Trudeau about the SNC-Lavalin affair and Trudeau left his officer via the window and climbed down the wall to escape. Lisa then asks him about the SNC-Lavalin affair and Trudeau left his office via the window and climbed down the wall to escape. Lisa then tries to be Offred at the school play.
At the Detroit River on Ambassador Bridge, Marge hides in Squeaky-voiced teen's car to get to the foster home, and forces her to leave. The teacher tells her some bad things about Canada to make her feel better about leaving, while a Canadian Ralph plays around the snow.
At the American Consulate, they won't let them return home however, so they ask them to get back to Canada, but they refuse. Marge asks Lisa to rethink of the good things from the home she's leaving. That convinces her to go back, but the people that were supposed to get them back to America leaves them in the middle of a frozen river.
Homer and Bart comes to the rescue with a truck but it sinks in the river, so they start running and make it back to Springfield where Lisa gets reacquainted, including seeing Princess and Ralph. For her show and tell, Lisa brought Canadian mountie, who also brought Nelson's dad with him.
Production[edit]
The Newfoundland song sung by the newfie was originally going to be Bruce Moss' "The Islander", with Moss being offered $20K for the use of the song. However, Moss turned The Simpsons down, which led to "Islander Forever" by Arthur O'Brien being used instead. Since the episode came out, Moss has said "I'm not sorry I didn't license it. And after what I've been told about this episode, I'm really happy I didn't".[1]
