A few characters set to return are Mona Simpson, and Lurleen Lumpkin. There have also been rumors that Myra from We're on the Road to D'ohwhere would appear.

Also various returning charcters who appeared this season include Sideshow Bob who has not appeared since The Italian Bob who appears in Funeral for a Fiend, Cecil Terwilliger who first appeared in Brother From Another Series also appearing in Funeral for a Fiend, Francesca Terwilliger and Gino Terwilliger who also first appeared in The Italian Bob both appear in Funeral for a Fiend, Dr. Velimorovic the plastic surgeon from Pygmoelian, and Large Marge appears in Husbands and Knives, and Gloria, Snake's girlfriend from A Hunka-Hunka Burns in Love appears in I Don't Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Also most knowingly is A Key of Hobos and Part 2 which was Keycard Simpson and appearerd in Radio Bart, Radioactive Man, I Don't Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings Mobile Homer, The Twisted World of Marge Simpson, It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Marge, The Wizzard of Evergreen Terrace, Lisa Gets an "A", Mayored to the Mob, Homer Simpson in: "Kidney Trouble, The Italian Bob, Funeral for a Fiend, The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular, Cape Feare, Ect.

Effect of Writers Strike

In November 2007 the WGA (Writers Guild America) went on strike. However, the season was originally going to have 23 episodes but due to the strike only 17 episodes were finished after Treehouse of Horror XVIII aired which was the last episode before the strike. Luckily, episodes will still have post-production as FOX will edit the scripts after production is finished.
