- The scene where Homer suffocates Abe parodies The Sopranos episode "Kennedy and Heidi", in which Tony suffocates Christopher Moltisanti in a similar manner.
- Lisa sells Girl Scout Cookies to Mayor Quimby. The varieties Lisa sells, Slim Mints and Don't-Si-Don'ts, are parodies of the typical Girl Scout cookie varieties "Thin Mints" and "Do-si-dos", respectively.
