Synopsis[edit]

"When Ned Flanders falls on hard times, Fat Tony makes him an offer he can't refuse. But when Flanders realizes he accidentally partnered with the mob, and wants the relationship to end, Fat Tony ominously warns there's only one way for that to happen."

Plot[edit]

Homer and Marge are asleep at night when they wake up to an explosion. Marge looks out the window to see Ned's trash can on fire as Ned rushes out of the house to extinguish the fire. Marge asks Ned what happened and Ned says that God loves to test him. A car then comes along and hits Ned, knocking him into the tree next to his house. Ned then goes back in through the window. Several other near misses with death start to happen to Ned until Marge finally confronts him and makes Ned tell her what happened to him.

Ned explains that he was Bart's teacher for a short period of time, which Marge totally forgot about. At school, Ned told Nelson that he should pray to Jesus. After this, Superintendent Chalmers went into the room and told Ned that he couldn't do that. When Ned prayed for Chalmers' soul, Ned was fired and kicked out of the school. After this, Ned wandered around town feeling lost until he came to the Our Lady of Dwindling Attendance Catholic church. Since the First Church of Springfield was closed at the time, Ned went in to pray. At the church, he met Fat Tony. Fat Tony offers to help Ned bring The Leftorium back as a benefactor, which Ned agrees to. Ned then enters into a partnership with the Springfield Mafia, without realizing.

During the story, Homer comes home and finds out that Ned was working with Fat Tony. The entire family laughs about it as that sounds like something Homer would do as he's stupid. Ned then keeps telling the story and explains how he and Fat Tony became close friends due to their partnership, despite Ned still not working out what it was that they did. One day, Lisa went to the Legitimate Businessman's Social Club to sell band candy and she saw Ned there. Lisa told Ned that he was working for the mafia, which shocked him. Ned then sent Lisa away and told her that her father was the real criminal for borrowing all his stuff and never returning it. Ned then confronted Fat Tony about him being a criminal and Fat Tony brought in his goons to kill Ned. Ned then jumped out the window and ran away.

This all led to where they were when the story started, with Ned in the Simpsons' house. Ned says that he'll go home and just get through it, but his house is then destroyed by the mafia, as is the Church so Ned can't hide there. So Ned ends up hiding in the attic above the Simpsons' garage. Louie and Johnny Tightlips follow Homer around town to try and get where Ned is hiding out of him. When Homer goes home again, he goes to the attic but finds that Ned is no longer there. Ned then went to confront Fat Tony and try and convince him that he was actually a good man. At first, Ned's speech seems to be working but then Louie and Johnny Tightlips come in and get ready to kill Ned. Ned then reveals that he has been wearing a wire ever since Lisa told him about Fat Tony being a criminal. The FBI bust in and arrest the mafia.

At prison, Fat Tony and Louie argue over the choice of literature provided to them and Fat Tony thinks that it'll be a long sentence.

Production[edit]

The episode's couch gag was done by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.[1]

Kipp Lennon was credited as a special guest voice, but his role from the episode was cut.
