Plot

Kirk Van Houten holds an unsuccessful short speech at Springfield Elementary School which has Principal Skinner get cartoonist Geoff Jenkins the creator of a cartoon named Danger Dog, however instead of the 'buckle down and study' speech Skinner had been hoping for Geoff tells the kids how easy and rewarding his job is and that he didn't even need to work hard in school to get it, causing all the other students to start trying to be cartoonists to. However their creativity is sadly lacking and they all create blatant rip offs of Danger dog. Bart then makes the worst rip off and then sees an angry Homer trying to unfold a lawnchair and makes a cartoon named Angry Dad based on his anger problem. Bart then goes to an internet cartoon company and there it is put on the internet. At work Homer, finds Lenny, Carl, and Mr. Burns * watching it and then finds out it is based on him and has become the most successful thing on the internet after one hour. Marge then says if Homer can control his anger Bart won't make anymore cartoons. Soon Angry Dad is cancelled when Homer has not been angry for a few days. Bart and Milhouse then decide to make the ultimate cartoon by putting a plate of doughnuts in the treehouse which lead to a trap door and then Homer is placed on a rope and when he cuts it he falls in a pool of green paint and turns into the Ingestible Bulk and goes on a rampage destroying the town. Dr. Hibbert then sends Homer to the hospital and relaxes him, Dr Hibbert then releals to the family that the violent outburst was just what Homer needed to release all the anger he had been holding back before it overwhelmed him. Homer decides to stop getting angry and Bart decides to stop making Angry Dad cartoons. The two then go fishing and then Homer is then angered there.

Cultural references

  • The title is a reference to 1967 Swedish film "I Am Curious (Yellow)", notorious for its controversial scenes.
  • Homer sings Donovan's “Mellow Yellow” when he tries to control his anger (marking the second time a Donovan song has been used; in Weekend at Burnsie's, Donovan's "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" was used during the montage of a stoned Homer getting ready for work).
  • In "Danger Dog", Danger Dog says he has a date with "Sarah Jessica Barker" referring to Sarah Jessica Parker. The plot of the comic also references Underdog.
  • The show Homer is watching, When Dinosaurs Get Drunk, is replaced with another called The Boring World of Niels Bohr. The opening image is of the scientist and an expanded version of the Bohr model of the atom.
  • The anthropomorphic animals in Danger Dog are reminiscent of those created by Scott Shaw!, whose work has also appeared in the official Simpsons Comics from Bongo Comics.
  • Marge suggests that Bart's comic could be a rip-off of Little Dot.
  • When Homer “changes” into the Hulk, Bart says “Thank God his pants stayed on.” This is possibly a reference to how the Hulk’s pants always stay on despite the increase in muscle mass.
  • Stan Lee hums Spider-Man's theme song while re-arranging comics, right after breaking Database's Batmobile by crushing the Thing into it; he then claims that he made it better.
  • When Better than TV goes into bankruptcy, Milhouse says, "I guess the bubble burst", referring to the rise and fall of the dot.com industry.
  • The voice actor who auditions to play Angry Dad is a caricature of (and is voiced by) Simpsons voice actor Dan Castellaneta
  • "Danger Dog" lives in large red fire hydrant, a parody of DangerMouse living in a pillar box.
  • One of BetterThanTV.com's cartoons is the series "Lou Rawls, Secret Agent", which features an animated Rawls in a trenchcoat trying to escape from a trap, singing "you'll never find... that microfilm of mine..."
  • There are many references to both DC comics and Marvel comics.
