Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy.
- Justin Timberwolf is a reference to Justin Timberlake.
- When Homer is seen singing Shout while dressed in a toga, riding a motorbike down the stairs, it is a reference to the 1978 comedy film Animal House, possibly extending to repeat usage of "Under the Boardwalk", by The Drifters.
- When Homer cries over the spilled milk it is a reference to the phrase, "don't cry over spilled milk".
- Jimbo mixed milk, Mentos and Lotto scrapings to make jet pack fuel.
- The colors of the samples Moe compares to Homer's tongue include Eggshell, Malabar Ivory, Mediterranean ecru and white.
- Marge unintentionally opens Microsoft Word on the computer.
- Homer passes by a sign that says "Mr. T is The Lion King".
- The song "On the Dark Side" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band is heard when Homer arrives at Guidopolis looking for milk. The song was featured on the soundtrack of the 1983 movie Eddie and the Cruisers.
