Cultural references[edit]
- The episode title is a pun on the popular franchise Pokémon. "Pokey" is a slang term for prison.
- In the chalkboard gag, Bart writes "I will not let the dogs out", a reference to the early 2000s song "Who Let the Dogs Out" by Baha Men.
- At the beginning of the episode, the bed folds in half completely, parodying The Jetsons Movie, in which the scene is the method of waking up George on his first day at the Orbiting Ore Asteroid.
- According to the warden, Bob Dylan wrote a song to keep Jack Crowley in prison.
- There is a painting of American guitarist Jimi Hendrix in the prison.
- Homer makes a reference to the National Air and Space Museum.
- Homer asks Marge for a BLT sandwich.
- Dr. Hibbert refers to the American comedian Sinbad and his twisted marriage history. Sinbad got divorced in 1992 and got married again to the same woman in 2002.
- The angels represented in Crowley's painting look similar to the statues of the angels on Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome.
- Crowley asked for the direction to Mecca, known as the Qibla, which is used by Muslims to pray. He later says he was joking, as he was Jewish.
- Dr. Steve accuses Homer of stealing his clients, and Homer compares that to when the American Medical Association (AMA) deprived chiropractors in 1987 to have access to the Association.
- The Puma Pride mural depicts Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess TV series on top of a puma.
- The sequence where Homer runs after the chiropractor parodies the movie Chinatown. The phrase by Moe, "Forget it Homer, it's Chiro-town", parodies the last line of the movie, "Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown".
- Skinner ironically thanks comedian Bruce Vilanch for a joke that had no success. Vilanch, who was among the public, says that "Whoopie would've made it work", referring to Whoopi Goldberg, who worked with him on Hollywood Squares for four years.
- Bruce Vilanch is wearing a T-shirt with the face of Fred from The Flintstones.
- Chief Wiggum tells Jack Crowley that he likes to watch Oz, an HBO-produced prison drama. Wiggum also enjoys watching Sex and the City, also from HBO. Crowley mentions he likes SportsCenter. Finally, Wiggum asks Crowley if people from the mob were like The Sopranos.

- Sideshow Bob can be seen in the infirmary, wearing a cast that covers him from the neck up.
- Whilst working at the prison, Marge informs Bart that Sideshow Bob will be seeing him very soon. Bart laughs and replies with "Oh, that Bob". Bob would return to terrorize Bart three episode later in "Day of the Jackanapes".
- Marge apparently makes horrible sundaes, as both Jack Crowley and Bart look pained when Marge urges them to eat one.
- Maggie does not appear at all in the episode.
- Bart exclaims that he doesn't have a blue shirt; however, he is seen wearing a blue shirt in many comics.
- The Crayola pencils internet site contains a coloring sheet titled "unicorn in space" like the picture painted by inmate Crowley.
Goofs[edit]
- At the beginning of the episode when Marge is getting Homer out of bed, her skin below her necklace is briefly blue-gray like her jacket.
- The chairs which the audience sits in during the presentation of Jack Crowley's painting change between blue and purple depending on the shot.
