- The Springsonian Museum is named after the Smithsonian Institute.
- Comic Book Guy asking Lisa three questions is a nod to a scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- The military base Area 51-A is a reference to Area 51.
- A sign at the base reads "You are here. We are not."
- The telephone booth Lisa uses in Springfield's Russian district has an onion dome on top, similar to those on Saint Basil's Cathedral.
- The melody played by the orb is very similar to that played by the music box in the film The Gate II.

- This episode marks one of the last appearances of Lionel Hutz, as the character was retired due to Phil Hartman's death.
Goofs
- You can hear Homer's voice in the bar, but then he is sleeping at the Plant.
- The blue and yellow on Homer's Ancient Egyptian headdress switch position with each other a few times.
- In the waiting room at Dr. Hibberts office when a woman and a child walk past Marge, for a split second Marge has the same buck tooth as Bart.

- Homer still has his gun from "The Cartridge Family" in his station drawer at work.
- The Khlav Kalash Vendor from "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" appears in the Russian district.
