Cultural references
- The title of the episode is a reference to the 1982 movie Fitzcarraldo.
- The blackboard text makes reference to the various predictions the show has made on many things, like Super Bowl LI's Lady Gaga performance in Lisa Goes Gaga. In the text, Bart says Homer bet on Atlanta's win and he lost the bet. In the Super Bowl LI Atlanta lost to the New England Patriots.
- Dominoes pizza boxes are a reference to Domino's Pizza and its Simpsons commercial.
- Homer eats a box of Cracker Jack. The box references the disappointing prizes that can be found inside.
- Homer mentions Macy's, saying "It's like if Macy's didn't sell mace."
- Patty references James Bond and the movie Licence to Kill.
- Kentucky Steamed Chickpeas is a reference to Kentucky Fried Chicken.
- Tofu Bell is a reference to Taco Bell.
- The food chain Arby's is seen.
