Synopsis
- "Marge is hired as a segment producer on Krusty's new daytime talk show. But her initial excitement about the job fades when she discovers what an endless nightmare it is."
Plot
Ron Rabinowitz, Krusty's agent, calls Krusty in his limo as he's on his way to Kelly Clarkson's housewarming party to entertain the kids. Rabinowitz tells Krusty that he's behind on his Cameos and asks him to do some of them. When Krusty arrives at Kelly Clarkson's house, the children don't seem to care about him. Krusty explores the house and is amazed at how fancy it is. Lindsey Naegle then approaches Krusty and tells him that the house came from daytime talk show money, not American Idol money. She then asks Krusty if he'd like to become a talk show host himself. Krusty reluctantly accepts the offer.
At Petmaxx, the Simpson family are shopping for dog food. Marge becomes overwhelmed by the amount of brands, and her family's constant pestering. When a woman asks Marge if she'd like to take part in a focus group, Marge quickly accepts and leaves Homer and the kids to get the dog food. The focus group turns out to be for Krusty's new talk show, led by Lindsey Naegle. Naegle quickly becomes irritated by the suggestions from the participants until Marge makes a good suggestion. Marge then makes several more good suggestions, leading to Lindsey firing Jerry, her segment producer, and hiring Marge in his place. Outside the building, Jerry warns Marge that daytime TV will change her and she can either keep her job or keep her soul.
Marge's first day comes around and she goes to Viacalm to work on Krusty. Marge gets to work and soon Krusty's first episode comes to be filmed. The show proves to be a hit, getting Krusty on the cover of many magazines, and Marge loves that her ideas are popular with the audience. However, the show quickly starts eating into Marge's personal life. She arrives late to date night with Homer at Ruth's Chris's Sal's Bob's Ruth's Steak House and then has to leave early because a guest cancelled on the show. The next day, Lindsey Naegle scraps all of Marge's ideas, claiming that they aren't good enough for the show. With the stress getting to her, Marge starts to hallucinate and dream about the show and coming up with ideas. All the other employees also suffer from the strict schedules and having to work overtime.
With the rest of her family realizing that Marge isn't enjoying working on the show anymore, they hold an intervention for her. Marge ignores the pleas from her family and friends to stop working on the show, thinking they don't like the fact that she's now a powerful, successful woman. Lindsey Naegle then texts Marge to tell her to turn on the TV, which has a show about the toxic workplace behind the scenes of Krusty. Marge rushes back to the office where she and the rest of the show's employees are all suffering from the workload. Krusty is made to do an apology episode and take full responsibility for everything. Meanwhile, Marge realizes that she has become a monster who is also making things worse for the other employees. Marge interrupts the apology to tell the audience that Krusty had nothing to do with it. As Marge talks to the audience, Krusty gets a phone call. After his call ends, Krusty interrupts Marge and tells the audience that he knew about all the problems. He then quits the show forever. Backstage, Krusty reveals to Marge that he got an offer to become Judge Krusty in a new TV show, which is why he quit.
Soon after, the family watch Krusty's new TV show. Marge then gets a call from Drew Barrymore asking for ideas for her show. Drew asks Marge if she'll reconsider working for her, but Marge rejects, as she wants to look after her family. When Marge notices that her family is currently in chaos, she tells Drew that she'll get in touch.
At Segments, a mental hospital for television employees, Lindsey Naegle gives a tour of the facilities. When she's asked who she's speaking to by one of the nurses, it's revealed that she wasn't talking to anyone and that she had become a patient there.
