The Book of Jobs is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #223.

Synopsis[edit]

"Have you ever noticed that Homer Simpson seems to have a new job every week? Well, there may be a very good reason for that episodic coincidence. What would happen if Homer didn't take every new job offer that came along but passed them on to every Barney, Disco Stu, and Moe who came along? Look no further."

Plot[edit]

Homer wants to compete in the Bullfighting Tournament against Señor Ding-Dong, but Marge stops him and Carl takes his place, because it's on his bucket list. Carl turns out to be good at it, so he thanks Homer for his help and pays him in pastries. Homer combines two of the pastries and Lindsay Naegle wants to start selling them. Brad and Neil tell Homer that they want him to go on the Neanderthal diet. Krusty tells Homer that he wants him to become a DJ at Klub Krusty. Homer wonders which of the jobs he should take, but Marge thinks he should let someone else take all the jobs so, he gives them away. Apu becomes the DJ, Ned begins to eat the diet and Gil begins to sell the pastries. Homer decides to open his own employment office. He gives away his old job at the power plant to Nelson. Homer's first customer is Disco Stu, who gets a job as a racing driver. Barney starts to wear a Radioactive Man costume, Chief Wiggum becomes a police informant, and Willie joins the Springfield Bear Patrol. Everyone is enjoying their new jobs except Homer, who also wants to have fun and cannot go to Moe's anymore because Moe has got a job as general in another country. Marge asks him to think of others and not himself. Things soon start to go bad for everyone: Comic Book Guy does the traffic report which causes Disco Stu to crash his car. Ned does not want to listen to Lisa's opinions on the caveman diet, Apu takes his job too seriously and becomes Kid Kwik-E, Barney thinks he's the real Radioactive Man, Wiggum starts committing crimes himself and reporting on them, and Moe causes the country to become bankrupt. Professor Frink comes by and says that only Homer can make the normal again, so he eats all the pastries, stands as a model for the Neanderthal diet, rescues Moe from the country, sings at Apu's gigs, reports Wiggum's crimes and fires Nelson. Everyone has their old jobs back and Homer is happy again, until The Rich Texan hires him to be his claims adjuster. It turns out to be a bad idea, because the next day there is chaos in Springfield.
