- Jessica Lovejoy being an accomplished Majorette is a reference to Pretty Poison.
- Bart says: "She is smart, beautiful and a liar, so much better than that Sarah, plain and tall.", then causing a girl, most likely Sarah, go running off crying, referencing the book Sarah, Plain and Tall.
- The song Ned Flanders sings in church is "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring".
- After Bart is accused of stealing from the church collection plate, he is forced to wear a straitjacket and mask in church, which is a reference to Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).
