Cultural references

• The episode title is a pun on "How I Spent My Summer Vacation", which is the title of a 1997 romantic comedy film as well as an often-assigned topic in school writing assignments (particularly at the start of fall term).
  • It could also be considered a reference to Joe Strummer, rhythm guitarist and lead singer of The Clash.
• The Rolling Stones welcome everyone to Rock 'n' Roll Camp by playing the opening chords of their song "Start Me Up."
• Homer's favorite TV drama MTC, Monkey Trauma Center is a reference to the TV series Trauma Center one of the first medical drama series.
• A Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp really exists.
• The Rolling Stones' Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp is run by two of The Rolling Stones (Mick Jagger and Keith Richards), Elvis Costello, Lenny Kravitz, Tom Petty and Brian Setzer, a very heterogeneous mix for the way they rock (and having lived it considering the varied age of these characters). Towards the end of the episode Brian Setzer calls the group "The Brian Setzer Orchestra".
• Keith Richards is always shown smoking because he stated that "Stopping smoking is harder than quitting heroin".
• It is possible that Elvis Costello finds bass fun because he was married to a bass player (Cait O'Riordan).
• Lenny Kravitz's Thread Shed logo is done in the "hippie style" of the 70's.
• Other songs heard in the episode:
  • Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz;
  • She's So Cold by The Rolling Stones;
  • Rip This Joint by The Rolling Stones.
• The group that performs on the Camp stage recalls the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the music played and the way they dress, but the ending with the burning guitar is a reference to Jimi Hendrix.
• Lenny Kravitz's car is an F1 McLaren with Marlboro livery (but in the advertised episode Duff and Laramie), Tom Petty's car is a {{W|Sandrail} buggy (with the motto "improve public scool" on the car door, Elvis Costello drives a "trike" motorcycle (looks like the Harley Davison Fat Boy Trike mod.).

• In the UK, this episode is called 'My Strummer Vacation'.
• The Gracie Sound is Mick Jagger shouting "Simpsoooon!"
• As the end credits roll, behind the scenes of the rock stars recording their voices are shown.
• After the guitar thrown by Homer hits his desk, Mick Jagger yells at the window "Simpsooooon !!" like Principal Skinner does when Bart gets sick.

Goofs

• When Disco Stu confesses in the car, for a frame the white and purple on the left of his jacket switch places with each other.
• Raphael's mustache and hair are two different colors while Homer's in his taxi.
• When Elvis Costello takes Homer's guitar and drives back to get the pick, the guitar changes color from red to a mustard sort of color.
• After Homer and his gang got their instruments (all guitars) and start singing, Homer's guitar changes form and color.
• When everyone is getting guitars, Homer is among the people who are waving their hands to get one, but in the scene before it, when they are in the cabin, Homer already has one.
  • Homer could have wanted another one.
• When the guitar crashes through Mick Jagger's window and messes up his desk, a stack of papers on the desk disappears for a frame.
• At the concert, some people change between shots:
  • For most of the scene, Legs is with the rest of the mafia, and when Homer is chased by the rock stars, Legs moves along a few places.
  • In that same scene, Ruth Powers, Bumblebee Man and Larry are replaced by Legs, a person resembling Leonard Nimoy and Larry Burns.
• When the audience of the final concert is shown, Lenny's hair is lighter brown than it is supposed to be in one scene.

Continuity

• This is the second time Homer has licked frogs to get high.^[1]
