Synopsis[edit]

"Marge implements a screen time limit for the whole family, all of whom easily adjust to the new lifestyle. However, Marge realizes that she is the one addicted—not her husband and children. The whole family gets checked into Messages, a rehab center for people addicted to screen devices."

Plot[edit]

The family is watching Marketing a Murderer on TV. When Maggie tries to get their attention but they don't understand her, Lisa switches to Baby Ein-sign, a show that teaches babies sign language.

Maggie is trying to tell them that Hans Moleman is stuck under a fallen tree in their yard, but they don't notice. In the morning, they continue watching the show while Hans is taken away in an ambulance.

The show is canceled after the government stops funding it, and since Maggie doesn't learn to use sign language, Marge gets frustrated when she can't stop Maggie from asking for more Cheerios, while Bart tricks her into losing at poker.

Marge stops Bart from watching Halfmonth videos on his laptop in front of Maggie, who then shows that she has learned how to sign. Later, the family plays on their devices, ignoring Maggie's development, so Marge limits their screen time to half an hour a week for everyone.

When they cheat the limit by having Raphael reset their screen time, he takes the devices away entirely. Bored at work, Homer becomes an expert in Jumble; Marge sees how it improves the lives of Patty and Selma; Bart uses his imagination after recovering a rocket from the school's roof, involving Jimbo and Dolph; and Lisa rediscovers the joy of finding books manually.

Marge can't find recipes in her cookbooks or get help from Luigi Risotto, and when the family returns home, they find her in the closet using her phone and laptop, realizing she's the one truly addicted. She checks the whole family into Messages, though she's the only one with a real problem.

The next day they arrive at the center and find it to be a paradise. The owner, Dr. Lund, shows them the various activities. They begin healing but can't resist for long and discover that the staff secretly use computers and devices to send spam emails after stealing patients' accounts. The family manages to escape stealthily and get Dr. Lund arrested for his scams.
