In the Name of Lava! is a comic story featured in Simpsons Comics #152.

Plot

In a hunt for Bigfoot after discovering a bad smell in the area, Bart climbs to the top of Mt. Springfield with Milhouse. They find the source of the smell to be Cletus, who is burning tires. Bart tells Milhouse that he has come up with a good prank, and goes home to trick Homer. He tells him to look towards the mountain and tells him that the smoke from the tire fire is from a volcano that has become active. Homer becomes afraid and tells to the family that they must flee. Homer drives off with full throttle after he starts the car with the family, but gets stopped by Clancy Wiggum. He says he accelerates because he wants to avoid the volcano and shows Clancy the smoke from Mt. Springfield. Clancy begins to spread the word via his police radio, and the TV broadcasts were interrupted, with an alert revealing that the volcano is active and invites viewers to evacuate the city. All of Springfield become desperate: Moe asks his friends to pay their debts, Comic Book Guy thinks about what comics he will retain and Joe Quimby how much money he needs. There have begun to be traffic jams on the way from Springfield where the Simpsons are sitting, while Lisa looks out to Springfield one last time and think it's odd that Bart does not want to do the same.

The residents of Springfield travel to Springfield Reservoir, where everyone is waiting for the volcano to erupt. Both Principal Skinner and Milhouse become desperate, trying to woo Edna and Lisa, respectively, however neither have much success. Homer is getting tired of waiting and decides to organize a party that begins when they start drinking. Arnie Pye want to appear as a hero and heads to the volcano via helicopter and discovers the true source of the smoke. This soon spreads and everyone gets mad at Homer and start to leave the reservoir. Homer tells the family that it was Bart who lied to him and Lisa tells Bart that she thinks he should be ashamed. Marge decides that the girls should go home with Otto's school bus. Homer and Bart are now alone at the reservoir and he starts to strangle Bart, who says that there is a crack that's getting bigger. Homer does not believe Bart, but this time he speaks the truth, and the reservoir cracks causing both to end up in a pool of water.
