Synopsis[edit]
- After the Superior Squadron defeat their latest villain, Sinister Van Dalus, Plasmo imprisons him for good. However, he breaks out with the help of some comic creators from another world. Plasmo recruits the Springfield Super-Squadron to help defeat the villain once and for all.
Plot[edit]
The Superior Squadron defeat Sinister Van Dalus before he can conquer the world. However, the superheroes don't know what to do with him because he's immortal, so they can't kill him, and he always breaks out of whatever prison they put him in. However, Plasmo has a plan and casts a spell to render him helpless, then banishes him to the cosmos, unable to move or speak until the end of time. While the rest of the heroes are dubious about this actually containing him, they allow it to happen because they haven't got any other ideas.
In Springfield, Bart and Milhouse are at a comic convention where they are reading a copy of Interminable Crisis. Comic Book Guy shows them a variant of the comic, The Zirconium Edition, which he has in a plastic slab to keep it safe. Meanwhile, the rest of the Simpson family are at the convention for a costume contest, with Homer and Marge in costume as The Ingestible Bulk and The Entangler. Homer wants to win the prize for the contest, which is $10,000. Comic Book Guy then shows off his copy of Interminable Crisis to comic creators Willis Cameron Wendall, Joe Jeffs, and Brant Garrison. When he turns around to get a pen for them to sign comics for him with, the three comic creators are hit by a beam of light and sucked into the comic. Meanwhile, the creator of Sinister Van Dalus, Gordon Farr, is holding a panel at the comic convention. He explains that Van Dalus came to him in a dream and that people shouldn't underestimate him because he's evil.
Back at the Superior Squad headquarters, the heroes discuss Van Dalus' escaping from his confinement. Plasmo tells them that Van Dalus found aid from people in another reality, one where they are all fictional characters in comic books, which shocks the Superior Squad. Meanwhile, at the comic convention, Bart and Milhouse go to have Gordon Farr sign their comics. At that moment, Plasmo appears to them to ask Gordon Farr for help. Plasmo explains what has happened to them and shows them a comic of the Superior Squadron discussing the idea of a world where they are fictional. At that moment, Van Dalus walks into the room with the comic creators and has them write up plot points to stop the superheroes. However, Van Dalus realizes that Plasmo has evaded him. Back in Springfield, Plasmo explains that Gordon's dreams are from him being tuned into the frequency of his world while he sleeps. Plasmo then asks for the help of the people of Springfield. Bart eagerly accepts and talks the rest of the attendees into joining in. Plasmo casts a spell and gives everyone the powers of their costumes, and the Springfield Super-Squadron are born again.
The Springfield Super-Squadron go with Plasmo to his world to confront Van Dalus while Van Dalus tries to become the leader of the other supervillains. They don't go along with him, so Van Dalus orders the comic creators to write the annoying characters into oblivion. As the villains argue, the Springfield Super-Squadron arrive and fight against the supervillains. Several of the heroes confront the comic creators while the kids rescue the Superior Squadron. Not wanting to be defeated, Van Dalus attempts to flee to his jetcraft, but The Ingestible Bulk has eaten it. The Squadron capture Van Dalus again but come to their original problem of not knowing how to contain him. However, Bart has a plan for that. Van Dalus is trapped in the mint condition copy of Interminable Crisis: The Zirconium Edition in Springfield, which is still encased in its slab, never to be opened again. However, Bug Boy is wary because there may be a universe beyond Springfield that considers Springfield fictional.
In New New York, Philip J. Fry is reading the copy of Interminable Crisis: The Zirconium Edition. As Van Dalus tries to get Fry to free him, Leela drags Fry away because they have work to do. Bender tells Fry that he takes comics too seriously.
