- Murder She Braised: The Slow Cooker Killings is a reference to Murder, She Wrote.
- Mary Tannenbaum's name is a reference to "Tannenbaum" being the German word for "fir tree" and to the Christmas song, "O Tannenbaum".
- The song "Welcome to Our Humble Home" that Bart and Lisa sings to Mary Tannenbaum is a parody of the Christmas carol "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing".
- The Wilhelm scream plays in Bart's treehouse.
- When Marge offers Mary brunch, she mentions Sex and the City.
- Principal Skinner was laughing at a Pearls Before Swine comic strip in the paper.
- Homer grinds up white stuff into fake snow to the song "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne.

- When all the Springfielders desert the movie, a crew member says "I love it when a shoot falls apart" and lights a cigar. This is a reference to character "Hannibal" Smith on The A-Team who smoked cigars and whose catchphrase was "I love it when a plan comes together", spoken when a plan falls apart.
- The posters in the frames in The Heartmark Channel office are impossible to make out due to the glassy effect over them when Mary enters the room.
