Cultural references

• The episode title is a reference to the 1980 prehistoric fiction novel The Clan of the Cave Bear. A film with the same name was released in 1986.

• The prehistoric sequences are a parody of the TV series Primal. In Primal, just like in this episode, extinct dinosaurs, Ice Age mammals, and post-metallurgy Homo sapiens are all coexisting in a single time period.
